It has officially taken the world by storm! No matter where you are, or what you’re doing – there will always be one person in the room that deems appropriate to bring up this topic, and you usually pretend you know exactly what they’re talking about. You’ve guessed right, we’re talking about Yoga and Meditation.
Change your breathing, and the rest will follow! Breathing is one of the many things in life we take for granted (yes, another thing to add to your list) – we do it unconsciously every single second of our lives, and most people will tell you that we *only* need it to survive. What most people don’t know, is that conscious breathing can alter our lives for the better. Don’t believe us? Read what we have to say! 1. It reduces anxiety Did you ever realize that your breathing pattern changes with your mood? That’s because your breath mirrors what is going on in your mind. Rather than letting your mind control your breath (and your life), we’re letting you in on a little trick that will give you the keys to your mind. Next time you’re feeling anxious, close your eyes for a few minutes – inhale deeply from your nose for a count of five and exhale slowly through your nose for the same count. Repeat this until you feel better. 2. It helps you manage your stress In today’s world, stress surges from every corner and aspect of life (kind of like an old friend you have parted ways with). So instead of running away from it, face it with your fist held high! The following technique is the foundation of several ideologies, such as yoga and meditation. So next time you feel like stress is taking over, follow these steps. Place one hand on your belly and take a deep breath through your nose for a count of four – feeling your belly rise (exactly like when you’ve devoured a big burger) and then exhale through your nose for the same count, feeling your belly getting emptied. Repeat this for one or two minutes. 3. It’s a natural sleeping pill There’s a plethora of mobile applications and medication that claim to aid with deeper and better sleep. Before you venture down that path, try breathing! Essential oils (such as lavender) can promote a better sleep. All you have to do is put a few droplets on your pillow, or even keep a Fine Wellness Scents tissue box close to you. Other breathing techniques, such as the 4-7-8 technique (where you take four, seven then 8 breaths) can aid in falling asleep faster. Doing the above exercises and practicing conscious breathing will allow you to connect with your NOW and be more mindful of your surroundings. Give our #Fine tips a try and you’ll never look back!
